I have been a professional writer in a number of areas for many years: as a journalist, playwright, novelist, and contributing writer for non fiction books.
More specifically I have been a journalist since 1997 writing hundreds of articles for national newspapers both here and in Australia. I have been commissioned by, amongst others: The Guardian, The Independent, The Weekend Australian, The Saturday Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, She magazine and the American web journal Salon.com
I am currently working on the development of ‘Marcela’ as a stage play with the director and producer Andy Jordan.
I am also collaborating with the writer Don Webb on a radio series for next year.
In 2009 my radio play reached the final 21 of the Alfred Bradley Bursary Award competition.
Brian Lewis invited me to join the writing team at The Pontefract Press in 2008. This Yorkshire based community publisher emphasises the power of storytelling whilst writing books for government departments and housing associations.
I was lucky enough to be awarded a place on Arts Central Training’s Mentorship Scheme in 2005 where I was mentored by the novelist Karen Maitland. I was also chosen for Arvon’s Advanced Fiction (Selected) course. Several of my short stories have been anthologised.
In 2004 I was awarded an Arts Council grant to pursue fiction writing. This was followed in the same year by a grant from Lincolnshire County Council.
Prior to this I helped in the development of writers, county wide in the newly created post of Writers’ Support Worker for Lincolnshire.
In the dim, distant past I was a Head of English and university lecturer.
